Specifically, you need to sand, oil, prime, and apply layers of stain and paint. This can quickly eat up a lot of money and time, especially if you’re already up to your nose in other projects.

Luckily, there’s a cost-effective way to upcycle — by using Valspar Oil-Enriched Enamel Paint for Cabinet and Furniture. These paints empower you to bypass sanding, oiling, and priming and jump straight to coloring and waterproofing your furniture

Steps for Using Valspar Oil-Enriched Enamel Paint for Cabinet and Furniture

Intimidated by paint prep for your next DIY project? With Valspar paint, we remove all the hassle of priming prep!

For best results we advise you to prep your wooden surface to achieve our Factory Finish.

How To Prep Different Surfaces

Depending on your surface type, you will need different prep applications:

Previously Painted Surfaces

Follow these steps for previously painted surfaces:

  1. Thoroughly clean the intended surface. Remove all traces of grime, dust, rust, chalk, grease, wax and mildew. When removing mildew, allow adequate time for the cleaner to evaporate.

  2. Ensure thorough cleaning for mildew-covered surfaces. Mildew can return, even after cleaning, through a new layer of paint. We suggest a solution of commercial mildew cleaner containing one part chlorine bleach and three parts water.

Unfinished or Porous Wooden Surfaces

Follow these steps to prep heavily stained, unfinished or porous wooden surfaces:

  1. Although our product includes primer in the mixture, we suggest coating the surface with stain-blocking primer for heavily stained or porous surfaces such as Cedar, or unfinished wood, and plywood/composition. This will ensure that our combined primer will apply evenly to a smoother surface. It will also prevent our paint from bleeding through the “pores” of the wood.

  2. Thoroughly remove any dust, particles, and stain-build-up from the surface.

  3. Apply layers as needed.

  4. Allow to dry.

  5. Your surface is now ready for Valspar Oil-Enriched Enamel Paint.

Metallic Surfaces

Our product is not just limited to wooden pieces. You can use Valspar Oil-Enriched Enamel Paint on metallic pieces, too.

Here’s how you can use it for metallic surface prep:

  1. Remove rust and tarnish on all surfaces, including handles and lock plates.

  2. Apply a rust-inhibitive metal primer.

  3. If your surface is galvanized metal, you may need an additional layer after first application to ensure a complete surface finish.

How To Apply Valspar Oil-Enriched Enamel Paint for Cabinet and Furniture

With our Primer and Paint combination, once your surface is cleaned and prepped, you’ll never have to worry about long dry-time for primer, or having to buy a separate primer exclusively for paint, again.

For best results, mix paint thoroughly. Note the following:

  • You can use a variety of brushes, rollers, or sprayers for application.

  • Please note the application method may impact surface coverage.

  • For more dramatic color changes, an additional coat may be required.

  • Best application conditions range from 50–90 ℉ and low humidity.

  • Use our product in a well-ventilated area with adequate lighting.

Our dry time is shorter than most paint brands, giving you more time to move onto the next project. For best results, allow two to four hours for dry-to-touch. For additional layers for dramatic color, allow 4 hours before reapplication.

Cleaning Up

Clean up has never been easier! Soap and warm water will easily remove our product from brushes and other surfaces. If the paint has completely dried, mineral spirits can do the trick.

Experience the Valspar Difference Today

Finding the right paint brand can be challenging, especially if you don’t know what you’re looking for. Many brands leave behind a chalky, rippled finish, complete with unsightly brush-line marks and air bubbles. Other “primer and paint” combinations also lack a solid, complete finish and coverage.

That’s where Valspar Oil-Enriched Enamel Paint for Cabinet and Furniture comes in. Budget-friendly, scratch-resistant, and brushmark-free, our paint will have you covered — quite literally.
